Part of the US State Quarter series that began in 1999, the Michigan quarter was a tough one to figure out how to cut. I ultimately decided to leave the majority of the coin intact and silhouette the 5 Great Lakes, which doubles as an additional way of highlighting the Upper and Lower Peninsulas present on the coin.
